This year’s hearty holiday soup, American Pumpkin Soup , is a traditional dish that is loaded with generous helpings of vegetables, warm and nourishing broth, and a hint of honey. The author of this recipe, CSOFTer Meg Navarra, organized an international soup competition at CSOFT’s Beijing office.
This year’s winter roast, a traditional Botswanan dish known as Seswaa, can be made from beef, goat, chicken, or lamb. In this Seswaa recipe shared by French linguist Michael Mutombo, the meat is cooked with onion and pepper for several hours until tender, then ground and served with a soft corn porridge called “pap” and a side of green vegetables.
For our sweetened festive cheer, we’ve chosen the classic Latin American sweet Dulce de Leche , made by slowly heating and stirring a mix of milk, sugar, and vanilla essence until it turns golden brown and thickens. Dulce de leche is a delightful addition in many desserts, such as alfajores, muffins, pancakes, ice creams, waffles, and cakes!
Our Spirit of Celebration is a martini with a special ingredient: wasabi! Wasabi is a traditional Japanese plant noted for its medicinal qualities, and its green color adds some holiday atmosphere to our Wasabi Martini recipe. The minimal use of this potent ingredient, usually paired with sushi in Japan, gives this classic cocktail an exotic flair. After a sip of this drink, not only will you feel merrier, but your health may even benefit a bit as well!
